VoxAir Lab

Clinical Voice, Resonance, and Upper Airway Research Across the Lifespan

Welcome to the VoxAir Lab! Our work examines voice, resonance, and upper airway disorders in pediatric populations, as well as across the lifespan. We study the presentation and impact of conditions such as dysphonia, cleft palate, and induced laryngeal obstruction (ILO). Our goal is to improve diagnostic precision and treatment outcomes. We are particularly interested in how these conditions affect laryngeal physiology, airway function, and quality of life. We integrate auditory-perceptual, acoustic, aerodynamic, physiologic, and patient-reported measures to advance understanding of both typical and disordered laryngeal function from an integrated airway perspective.

The VoxAir lab is directed by Robert Brinton Fujiki, PhD, CCC-SLP, a clinician- scientist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders, induced laryngeal obstruction (ILO), and craniofacial anomalies in children. Dr. Fujiki is an assistant professor in the Indiana University School of Medicine - Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery. In addition to research, he is a clinical speech-language pathologist at Riley Children's Health, treating patients with voice, cleft palate, ILO, and other similar conditions.
